What is the Badly Behaved Books subscription box?
A monthly smut book subscription box for readers who like their romance spicy and their nights unapologetic. Every month we choose a trope, hand pick a spicy romance book to match, and pair it with a candle, keepsakes and, in Do Not Disturb, a pleasure product from one of our partner brands.
Which box should I choose?
Pillow Talk is perfect if you read on your phone, tablet or Kindle, or love audiobooks. Between the Sheets is our most wanted box: a print book plus the full candlelit ritual. Do Not Disturb has everything in Between the Sheets plus a pleasure piece, for readers 18 and over.
How spicy are the books?
Every book comes with a heat rating from Warm to After Dark, plus content notes, so you always know how hot the pages run before you start.
When am I charged and when does my box ship?
Your first box is charged when you subscribe. After that, your subscription renews on the 1st of each month. Physical boxes ship between the 10th and 15th with tracking, and Pillow Talk picks land in your inbox on the 1st.
Can I skip a month, switch boxes or cancel?
Yes, anytime from your account, with no contracts and no cancellation fees. Make changes before 11:59 pm Mountain Time on the last day of the month and they'll apply to your next box.
Can I choose discreet or loud packaging?
Yes, it's your call. Our Little Secret arrives in a plain outer mailer with nothing on the outside, and the full reveal waiting inside. Loud and Proud arrives in our signature oxblood and blush box, made to be seen and unboxed on camera. Choose when you subscribe and switch anytime from your account. Either way, your card statement simply shows Badly Behaved Books.
Who can order Do Not Disturb?
Do Not Disturb is for customers aged 18 and over only, and includes a pleasure product from one of our trusted partner brands. Every piece is body safe and arrives new in its original packaging.
Is Do Not Disturb for solo or couples?
Both, beautifully. Enjoy it solo, share it with a partner or read the good parts out loud together. Pleasure looks good in every form, and every piece we choose is made to be enjoyed however you like.
What if I already own the book?
Every box is a surprise, and that's half the fun. Because each box is curated and packed for that month, we aren't able to exchange books you already own. Our favourite fix: pass it to a friend and start your own spicy book club.
What if something arrives damaged?
Email hello@thenightshelfbooks.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we'll send a replacement or make it right. No need to send anything back.
Can I return a box?
Because every box is curated and packed for our subscribers, billed boxes are final sale. Items bought individually from our shop can be returned unused within 30 days. See our Refund Policy for full details.
Where do you ship and how much does it cost?
We ship across Canada only for now. All orders are tracked, and shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location.
How do I get 25% off my first month?
Join the waitlist using any Subscribe button on our site. Founding members get the code FOUNDING25 for 25% off their first month of any box when we open. After that, boxes renew at the regular price.
Can I give a subscription as a gift?
